The concentrations of major hydrochemical parameters, as well as mercury in water and bottom sediments of small watercourses, were determined under the hydrogeochemical conditions of the Khabarovsk urban agglomeration (using the Chernaya River as an example) in the territory of Outer Manchuria. It was established that the content of dissolved mercury species in water did not exceed the maximum permissible concentration, remaining below 10 ng/L. The influence of environmental factors on the processes of mercury accumulation and remobilization in bottom sediments was examined. A relationship was demonstrated between anthropogenic pressure on the catchment area and mercury content. Ecological risk was assessed at different reaches of the watercourse. Mean mercury concentrations in bottom sediments at sites of “considerable” risk ranged from 102 to 137 µg/kg, while in the least contaminated sites they did not exceed 40 µg/kg. A stable dynamic equilibrium was revealed between the processes of Hg accumulation and release by bottom sediments, which persists both in the warm and cold seasons and is independent of variations in hydrochemical parameters within the observed ranges.
