Abstract

The rate of waste generation is also increasing exponentially as the volume of waste in landfills, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and public health consequences grow in urban areas. Because of poor segregation, monitoring, and inefficient breakdown in conventional waste disposal systems, the management of biodegradable waste is less effective than that of other waste types. The objectives of this study are to introduce an intelligent, biodegradable waste management system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and a rapid composting process, providing an eco-friendly solution for domestic waste. This proposed system aims to automate waste separation, continuous environmental monitoring, odor control, and accelerate the composting of organic waste into high-quality fertilizer.

The framework also includes meters from the composting process, as well as sensor monitoring of the efficiency of decomposition, which optimizes the reduction of environmental pollution from the coming process. Additionally, the proposed model generates two valuable products: solid compost, and liquid organic fertilizer, contributing to sustainable waste management and resource recovery. The prototype was analyzed and compared with the traditional composting and other smart systems using the empirical method. The study concentrated primarily on such issues as: reducing food waste, composting time, odor control and implementation feasibility of the system in urban households with limited space.

The findings indicate that the proposed smart waste management system can enhance the com-posting efficiency, minimize landfill waste disposal, and promote more sustainable waste management practices. The study is significant in the field of smart environmental management because it provides a scalable, low-cost, and environmentally friendly solution for treating urban organic waste. The proposed framework can also contribute to sustainable city initiatives and objectives on the circular economy through technology-based HW management practices.
